Doug Allen
Head of Health and Safety
As a Chartered Safety Practitioner of IOSH and having membership to professional bodies such as Association of Project Supervisors, Institute of Fire Engineers and Institute of Risk & Safety Management, Doug’s experience in Health & Safety spans 27 years and ranges from delivering operational and safety management in shopping centres, to the corporate property division of a large County Council, to a major facilities management and infrastructure provider and as the corporate adviser to a number of world wide, blue chip companies.
Joining UPP in 2005, Doug has brought his wealth of wide ranging knowledge and experience in developing a best practice, effective and practical safety management system. This class leading, user friendly system is supported by a safety training programme that has seen all senior managers achieving an IOSH safety certificate. All site operatives undertake a bespoke job specific Task Review Training Programme that is tailored to the individual.
This detailed safety training programme and supportive safety management system has helped UPP stay at the forefront in providing safe, healthy residences.
The latest legislative requirements are implemented speedily by use of updated procedures delivered through team workshops. External providers are encouraged to attend these workshops to ensure our partners follow our requirements. This has recently included the introduction of a CDM ( Construction, Design and Management ) Manual to comply with CDM 2007 and the development of a Fire Manual to comply with the Fire Safety Order 2005.
Using the CHAS competency appraisal system, our contractors and service providers are fully supported by Doug in maintaining their own safety systems. This supportive working together approach helps UPP well maintained and serviced properties.
With positive inspection reports from such bodies as ANUK, the fire service and the HSE, UPP have a pro-active attitude to safety management that is fully supported by the management board.
