Green Energy Challenge

During 2009, UPP supported students taking part in the University of Plymouth’s Green Energy Challenge. We helped them measure their performance, as well as scoring the kitchens for efforts in recycling and environmental initiatives, and monitoring the consumption of utilities. Sustainability is high on everyone’s agenda and we see this becoming an annual event. It has also helped us focus on our refuse strategy for the forthcoming academic year and beyond. Staff from UPP Asset Management who run the halls at the University, supplied a tree which has been planted in the grounds of the winning team.

Environmental Policy

Environmental Management Policy Statement

It is the policy of UPP Group to manage its business activities in a manner that reflects a commitment towards the protection of the environment. We recognise that what we do today affects both current and future generations and we are therefore committed to continuous improvement. Our aim is to ensure that our work is undertaken in such a manner as to have minimum impact on the surroundings in which we operate.

In pursuit of our environmental objectives, we shall:

  • Ensure that environmental performance considerations are integrated into all our activities.
  • Identify the aspects of our business that will have an impact on the environment.
  • Comply with green legislation, regulations, university partner requirements and best practice.
  • Prevent pollution and contamination.
  • Measure and manage energy consumption.
  • Minimise the use of resources (materials, fuel and energy) thereby reducing waste.
  • Re-use and re-cycle waste materials where possible.
  • Encourage and influence our contractors and suppliers to work with us in securing beneficial change in our shared environmental impacts.

UPP’s environmental policy recognises a long term commitment to update company policies and procedures according to advances in environmental understanding, changes in the law and best practice guidance. The Directors of UPP recognise that our goals can only be achieved through the personal involvement of all UPP employees. In practical terms this means a willingness of all staff to demonstrate a commitment to our objectives through implementation of, and adherence to our environmental policy, procedures and best practice guidance.
